Being a Mom of two energetic boys brought back the memories of my childhood passion for hosting intricate themed parties and inviting classmates to join in. Attending my boys' events, others began encouraging me to start a party-planning business. But with two growing boys, who has time for that? I know all the busy moms can relate!

As a stay-at-home Mom, I learned to celebrate the successes of others and provide support and love during hardships. I founded a non-profit organization called Loving Mountain City and have been leading the group for the past 16 years. The organization aims to create more community service projects and activities for families within our small town.

For Both Sons
I'm not just the founder and coordinator of Loving Mountain City, I've developed some serious mom skills too! Over the years, I've served as Home Room mom for both of my boys (k-5) and was a scout leader for 6 years. I have organized everything from classroom parties to a trip for 19 young men to Alaska, which has taught me tons about staying organized, putting people first, and catering to everyone's unique needs. Whether it's allergies, religion, or community spirit, I've got it covered!

After sending the boys off to school, I put on my work boots and headed back to work. As much as I loved teaching I didn't feel I could be there for my students as they deserved and also be available to my boys as I desired. So, I pivoted to Higher Education and landed a job at Texas State University. My time there was a blast, helping out the amazing staff and mentoring many young adults along the way. One important lesson I learned was the value of staying connected with our "grown" babies. Even as young adults, a care package, chat with a mentor, or a surprise hug from mom or dad can make all the difference.

Our guests are still raving about our wedding night. People kept telling me I should become an event planner or gift coordinator. Even though the idea resonated with me, I was committed to helping young adults and appreciated the security that came with my university job. Pursuing that dream job didn’t seem like an option I’d ever see to fruition.

After a decade of supporting students through the Division of Student Affairs at Texas State, I was approached to create the technology department for the diversity division. This experience allowed me to enhance my technological, organizational, and leadership skills while also cultivating a love for celebrating others in their diversity of religions, beliefs, and cultures. In this role, I also discovered a deeper appreciation for my own core values and abilities to unite communities and embrace life.

The summer of 2023 brought two huge events that changed everything. My son graduated top of his class and was awarded a full scholarship to Texas A&M. Meanwhile, my position at Texas State was suddenly eliminated after 13 years of employment, despite being named Employee of the Year twice. I found myself at a crossroads, wondering what comes next.
